This is a simple question, and it probably has a simple answer. I don't care if I sound like a newbie for asking this, there is no such thing as a stupid question.
What is the difference between DVD+R and DVD-R?

DVD-R was the first to be introduced and is still the most widely used format
DVD+R was introduced in early 2002 as a competing format.
The two formats are WRITE incompatible, but can be read on most players/drives. (You must use a +R drive to write DVD+R, -R drive for DVD-R).
Companies in the -R camp:
Pioneer, Toshiba, Hitachi, Matsushita Electric (Panasonic) & others.
Companies in the +R camp:
Philips, Sony, Hewlett-Packard, Ricoh, Yamaha, and others
Some of these companies do not make their drives compatible with the competing formats, so the media must match the proper camp

Is one format better then the other? It seems like DVD-R is cheaper.

I've had nothing but problems with DVD+R's, so I use nothing but DVD-R's. HOWEVER, some machines (dvd recorders etc) will require one or the other (a lot of machines now though can use either or). Thats my two cents
That's funny because I have had nothing but problems with DVD-R's. I guess it's more of a personal preference and what kind of hardware you're running.
