I am currently in pre-production for a film I am going to make about a band of rebels. One of the themes of this film is nature and anti-consumerism so most of it, well nearly all of it, is outdoors on a camp. I was just wondering if any of you older filmmakers have done shots in the remote countryside and how you powered your lights and microphones without any mains electricity.

Mikes are typically run off the camera and mixer. If the lights are too big to run on batteries you'll need a generator, which brings a whole host of problems... not least that fact that they're usually loud, so you have to keep the generator away from the the area where you're shooting.

If you're shooting on video at night you can probably get away with a couple of battery-powered lights. My dad has a 'flashlight' which uses a motorbike headlamp run from a motorbike battery, and that's pretty bright and lasts a very long time.
