I had a (what i think is) wicked idea for a movie and wanted to pitch it to friends/ collegues so we could make it ourselves. I am now not in a position to make the movie as it entails a lot of travelling and am wondering how to go about selling the proposal, what should i do and what should i expect.

Unless you have at least a detailed outline, I'd forget about it. Five bucks and a great idea without a great script will just about buy you a cup of coffee...

It is a documentary style film and i have a very detailed outline, itinerary, route, structure etc. Any more than a fiver?

Sure, but then you're talking about pretty much a complete 'script', not just an idea.
