hello, i still havent resolved my decision to purchase the sony hdr-hc3
but i have another question, what the main differnce between the canon xh g1 and a1, is the sd/sdi capability.....pardon me im not very seasoned, what is sd/sdi????
Hey
Just a quick point - I cant help you with your canon differences, but sd/sdi refers to the standard definition of the cameras. You have High Def at the top, followed by Standard definition then followed by DV resolution.
Anyway, i have a HDR HC3 and couldn't recommend it highly enough. It took me a while to sort out whether i wanted to get it or something else. But im so so glad i did get it in the end!
Hope this helps. . .

SDI is Serial Digital Interface - the SDI standard describes how to carry uncompressed serial, digitized video data between equipment in production facilities over video coax cables.
As JP mentioned SD is Standrad Definition.
The main differences in the cameras you ask about are the size and type of the CCD's, lens and type of audio inputs. The HDR-HC3 uses one 1/3? CMOS sensor not the 3 1/3" CCD's used by Canon. It has a very small fixed lens, not the larger lens of the Canon. The HDR-HC3 doesn't have a microphone input.
