Hey everyone

I came across the forum about a month ago, well done all, a good libary of advice you guys have built up here.... anyway

I come seeking advice from all who will offer it 😀

About a year ago I decided I might like to enter the world of filmmaking, so I started to write ... even tho I havn't completed a script yet, I feel I'm making considerable progress...

But on seeing the ON THE LOT show coming-up, I decided I would like to do this program too.... This is my problem....

I have the Money to do a good projet, I have the drive ... But What I don't have is a story to tell ... I have found fitting a story into 5minutes much harder than into 90minutes, I asked my family they're opinion on wether i should look elsewhere for a good script but this was met with 'well you want to be a writer/filmmaker so you'll be stupid if you do'

With the deadline approahing (16th February), What do you guys think?

Also what should I offer for a script if I do try to find one?

Thanks for your opinions guys

James

All you can do really is keep thinking about it all the time. Also remember for short films to keep the story painfully simple to avoid it becoming longer than it need be. You could even base it loosely off a short kid's story in order to ensure that it doesn't get outta hand.

Hey there. Have you thought about writing comedy? If you're a real funny person this comes almost naturally. The best part about comedy too, is that it can be about anything really. The only key is that it has to be funny!

Take a scene from a 90 minute screenplay and pump it up to add a bit more of a goal/tension for the lead character. Also add quirks to give a sense of character which otherwise isn't really possible in 5 minutes. Watch a ton of commercials and marvel at how they can create a scene/character/plot in 30 seconds or less.
