Hey guys I?m still trying to figure out the basics of a movie and how the frames and scenes are created... SO i?m watching movie "BLOW" right now and I realized how important is the color of clothing in regards to the rest of the frame. A different color of a shirt on a different backgroung and it throws off the whole balance in the frame. There is so many little details in movies that if one is forgotten the whole scene can end up not bringing its full potential.. Now i realize how TIME CONSUMING shooting 1 scene it could be.. First you gotta decide on few camera positions then find the right frames, fix anything that doesn?t look good in a frame, meaning add some furniture take away some, whole design of the set and then actors , what are they wearing and etc.. WOW so many things one 1 HEAD!! how do you guys manage all of that? I mean in HOLLYWOOD movies you got professionals who work in all of those aspects and as a director i guess you decided if thats good or not. Here you kind of have to make everything on your own unless you got some good friends who share your filming hobby/career.
I think that in order for one person to seriously be able to create a hollywood looking movie you need some knowledge in all of cinematography. from camera work , to light and designing and whatever it takes..
so much to learn...
btw. how do you manage all that with almost no budget? Is it even possible to get anywhere with no budget? I mean your movies would really have to be either Documentaries or very basic life typo of dramas or comedies.. I don?t imagine making a scifi movie with no budget.. come on.. Unless you use all computer graphics..

But yes, you're right about clothes: it's a pain when you're working on a low budget, and your actor turns up in clothes the same color as the walls because you didn't think to warn them beforehand :).
It's all determined in Pre-Production. At least it should be. Costumes, set design, lighting, shot selection, make-up, casting, crew...all of it should be done before you show up on the set...that way when you do show up on the set everything is in place. You are manipulating your audience with everything you do. If you don't plan it out then you may not get the reaction you want from your audience. Plan it all!
