Hi there,

I was hoping someone could answer a question for me. I'm intersted in using a few Mark Twain quotes in a script I was writing. Is there some sort of permission required form Twain's estate, or a fee that has to be paid to someone, or can you simply quote whoever you please as long as you follow up with the author of the quote? I also wanted to quote something directly from Paradise Lost, and was wondering if that was any different since the work has actually been published (and Twain's quotes were not).

Thanks!

You should be able to get away with using the qutoes under the "fair use" clauses within copyright rules if you fully credit the source/author. But it might be worth checking with a lawyer for ultimate peace of mind.
