Hi guys. I am new to the forum, working on my first film, a short. I'm doing photography for the film. I'm a trained still photographer, and am studying cinematography. I am very nervous because I want the film to look perfect. The situation is thus: I have access to an Arri S, which I only know how to use theoretically, and I will be shooting and also processing the film. The processor I'll be using is one I've built myself, so I want to do some tests for the film. I'll be shooting on 7222. I'm thinking of using 5222 to do some still tests, but unfortunately I can't find a reasonably small roll, and 5222 short ends are something like 250 feet. I need maybe twenty feet. What I'm considering doing is getting either PLUS-X or TRI-X (both available in 35mm rolls for still photography) and processing it for similar results as the 7222 (either pushing or pulling it). Basically I just need to know about the film curve and how to place the shadows. Any advice? I don't want to use PLUS-X for the film because it will be a low-light situation. I usually do not use Kodak films. Does anybody know if PLUS-X exposed and processed at 200 will give the same results?
Also any experienced advice about beginning cinematography in general would be most appreciated. I'm a big fan of Bergman and would like my film to have a rich, painterly look.
