I'm planning to make a short film of about 15 minutes. Most short films I see revolve around a moment or incident that happens on the same day or in the span of a few hours. My story takes place over a peiod of time...and I'm planning to use narration to add continuity and pace the movie. Can short films be made in this way?

Also are there any tips/rules for narration?

Well, it'd be tricky, but doable if your story jumps into the action right away. That's probably the key -- making sure there's no "dead space" or unnecessary exposition.

Yes. You can make a film exactly the way you want to make your film.

The "short film police" won't put you in "short film jail".

Make it interesting.

BTW: you know I'm just having a little fun the the jail remark....

one thing you could do is to transport time.
I forget the technical term ...ie, you could have your character (if he's male) grow a beard within the days/ weeks gone by. another example is Just the way when clouds are passing by, you could also focus your camera on the sky for about 30 minutes of the day but during editing, have them moving fast to show that time has moved on. ( just the way the do it in a documentary- when a flower is in its budding stages they fast forward the episode)
hope that helps.
