I live in Chicago and I have been offered two internships for this fall.
One is for a production company and the other is for a tv show that is locally produced.
I'm really excited about these opportunities but I'm also a little concerned that I'm putting too much stock into them.
I am hoping that these internships will lead me right into a job (or at leaset near one)...or help me with my career. My big fear is that they wont...and I'll have gone 4 months without working, spending up my savings for nothing.
Do you guys have any recommendations on how I can get the most out of my internships?
I'm hoping that they can lead directly into a career in production, but the Chicago market is really competitive because, for a city of this size, its relatively small.
Any advice? I have to live in Chicago for the next 2 years so moving to LA or NYC is out of the question.
Make yourself essential, work your ass off, always be in a great mood and willing to do anything, work late, make coffee before you're asked, come up with great ideas and make the producer's lives as easy as possible, then fingers crossed they'll offer you a job. Make friends with as many people as possible, contacts are everything.
