Hello everyone, a guy over here is selling me a Panasonic M9000 S-VHS (yes it's an old format).
Their selling it for $100 USD and my old camera broke down. I really want to shoot my short movies and the camera has s-video, i got a capture card and sony vegas 5.0. Question, does this camera have good quality? Is it worth it...and please don't say, save up for a minidv because I can't save up anymore money, sadly. VHS tapes are easy and cheap to get here, plus in this country the cheapest minidv cam cost about 400 bucks,I live in central america. Thanks guys!
S-VHS isn't a bad formt, and from what little I can find about that camera it appears to have a reasonable level of manual controls. If you can capture the footage from the camera into your computer, it looks like a pretty good deal for that price.
Be aware, though, you'll need S-VHS tapes rather than VHS. When I was buying them in the UK they weren't much more than VHS tapes, but it's probably worth checking what they cost these days.

Thank you very much Mark. I passed by the studio to have a look at the camera and I was not very convinced with the resolution and quality in general. I believe you can see better resolution on a hi8 and I know hi8's are new camera's. Now something I did not like was how dirty the recording was and S-VHS tapes are right around 10 USD here in Panama. VHS tapes are around four dollars but I'd like to record with more quality. At the end of the road I didn't buy anything and convinced my wife if I could have more time to save up money 😉
The camera that broke down by the way was a Sony DXC-537 3CCD. I just need to fix the focus and it's fixed, but the VTR is dead...so I don't know what to do when I want to record..the only thing I could do is record directly to a VCR or anything.
