So, if I shoot at 23.98 fps using the 180 degree rule (which is considered the most "cinematic" frame rate / shutter speed combo) and if I try to playback the material on my PC, then I must manually set my monitor's refresh rate to a frequency that is exactly divisible by 23.98. Otherwise I get choppy video with a lot of stutter.
I want to make a short film and to upload it on video platforms like YouTube. Problem is that there is no way to ask the viewers to tweak their monitor's refresh rates every time they want to watch my film. So most of them will be experiencing that same stutter when they watch my short movie.
I think that YouTube does the so called "three-two pull down" and converts everything you upload there to 29.97 fps, but I did some tests and my test videos still play choppy on YT, even after the YouTube conversion.
How to overcome this?
Below is a link to a very nice short film that was shot by somebody using the same camera as mine at 23.98 fps.
I did not notice any stutter in this film even after I watched it at different (and weird) monitor refresh rates.
How did they do it so their film plays smoothly at all refresh rates?
