You have a lot of characters. I'd suggest cutting it down a lot. What do all of the characters do to help the story? If nothing, or very little, give their lines to other characters. This way you get fewer characters with more to do instead of a couple dozen, each with a line.

The only advice I can give is pick a better fairytale. Honestly, Shrek is quite ovverated and there are much better tales out there.

And surely some a lot more entertaining. Shrek is the easy way out, it is a conglomeration oof fairytales. Pick a single one.

a lot of them will be killed and is thrown to prison and they will do some dancing and fighting scenes...so do i have to cut some of them? correct if i'm wrong... I'll cut some of "those who gets killed" and instead of appearing in the play they will only appear in the dance and fighting scenes...so i'm going to let a couple of my main charcters thrown into prison and those that i had cut will be a back-up dancer...
so what do u think??

I agree but it's the majority of the class...they don't want the classic fairy tale so do i so we settled for shrek...in order for us to have good grades I decided to at least put almost all of us in the cast that's why i wound up having tons of character so i guess it won't work out well okie! so i have to cut the characters short and change the fairy tale okie!?:D? ?:)?...probably this time i'll only have 5-6 main characters?? would that be good??

If you want to do something that gives all your classmates parts, why would you cut characters? If you cut down to only 5 or 6 characters then you cut out parts for so many people.

Some people are going to have different tastes in movies, but just because one person doesn't like Shrek doesn't mean you should give up on your goal. I think your first idea is terrific. What a great way for a student in high school to learn about story telling.

Involving the whole class changes things regarding the number of characters, so does the fact that many of them sound as if they are minor characters to the story. So does the fact that this is a project involving the entire class on not just you writing a screenplay.

Feel free to ignore my previous post.

I agree with Sword though, Shrek has been done (more than once) and there are so many fairy tales begging to be mocked. Still if it's not your choice so be it.

RJ and I have got this rolling here.

I would seriously consider picking a new one. There are many, MANY more out there that deserve to get it.
Take for instance, Rapunzel. You could own that bad boy...er...GIRL!
What about Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves? Theres a part for everyone!
Maybe the Billy Goat's Gruff with that troll under the bridge? Its good revenge to cast people as a troll!
Do a remake of Little Red Riding Hood only modrenized!
If you prefer violence, do the fisherman and his wife!
Or maybe the Tale of the Flying Dutchman!
Pick a childrens story and redo it! Say maybe, Where the Wild Things Are!

There is a whole world of fairy tales out there. I'm sure with a bit of research you could come up with one that is tantalizing to the whole crew.

I would type more, but I should seriously get offline and check myself into rehab.
Toodles! Good luck!

I am sure right now you think we're a bit off in the head, but you'll thank us in the long run.

I vote the Fisherman and his Wife. It hasn't been done nearly enough and is has some delicious content.

I have a feeling your heart is set on Shrek (blech...hated it)...but have you ever seen any of Shelly Duvalls Fearie Tale Theatre series from the 80's? They are twisted versions of the classics (ie, Jeff Goldblum stars as the Wolf in the 3 Little Pigs - he sports an attitude and has an abusive wife who screams that he'd better "bring home the bacon!"). If there is time to rewrite of change the project I'd suggest you check these videos out at the library as they may be very inspirational.

Good luck.
