Anyone know how to go about getting permission to use of music (Elvis and other old classics) in a no budget short film that I plan to put on the web and maybe in festivals?
Any thoughts or help is greatly appreciated.
Depending on how old the classics are, they might be public domain. This means they are free to the world. In the case of Elvis however, you would most likely have to contact whoever owns the rights to the song in question and pay them a chunk of money. The amount can vary significantly depending on several variables. Some companies have clean cut legal guidelines as to how much to charge for what and some probably vary as to how well you play their sympathies. I suggest doing some research to find who owns the rights, contact them, be persistent, and get answers.
The Matrix sucked. Ask me why.
Thanks for the help.
