This is an incredibly newbie question, but:
The director I'm working with wants to film some sex scenes. However, he wants to use something to cover the actors' groins. Is there a specific costume clothing to use and if so what on earth is it called?

I don't know if there is a piece of costume for that. I've seen kitchen towels used for that purpose. They are the perfect size to provide privacy for the actors and stay hidden from the camera.
