I am looking for ideas on how to make fake bullet shots. I know all about Squibs but they cost a lot and i am actually making no budget short & feature length movies at the moment. I have also looked at the Exposure Website on their method of doing it with an Insecterside Pump but here in Britain i can't seem to find one with a detonator & sprayer? Does anyone know any other ways of making good no budget bullet explosions? Your help would be truly appreciated!

It's not the size that counts, it's how you use it!

Unless you buy professionally made squibs I wouldn't screw around with gunpowder?B)?. You can make a great looking squib effect with an air compressor and a well placed blood pack or tube of blood??:)?. Hook the tube of blood to the compressor and the other end where you want the shot.

Check out this site for great details

Depending on how you want to do the shot and what you want to achieve, I strongly suggest you use party poppers. Buy a bag of them, and at the same time some fake blood, (Hallow'een time is the best time to buy fake blood, but you can also make it using washing up liquid and red food dye, or just red food dye on its own 😉 )

Open the top of a party popper and take out the stringy stuff. By firing the party popper you will create a large splatter of blood. This is most effective against a wall, or a tiled floor etc. It may be hard to trigger a party popper off if you're doing a shot from a distance because the string attatched to it is fairly small, but if you're doing close ups then it should be fine.

And remember, if you're making a bullet shot go through clothing, making sure you've cut a hole in the clothing before, or sliced the clothing enough to allow the blood to spurt out.

Oh, yes it is a good idea to put the little circular cardboard thing back in the top of the party popper if you're going to be holding it at an angle, and don't worry, you've got a few minutes before it all starts seeping everywhere 😉

Im a bit of a pyro, I used to make my own fireworks out of fertilizer and weedkiller. It's not dangerous at all as long as you are sinsible and think about what you are doing. I guess making your own squibs would in reality be easy as pie. Anyway unfortunatly post 9/11 it is not really a good idea to do this as you will probably find yourself being held without trial in Cuba as a suspected terrorist! So I guess that party poppers are the best you will get (although pretty pathetic). ?;)?
