I am just starting out and learning how to use a camera and editors and everything. I shot this film and then decided to learn 3d animation and so you will see the combination.

My problem is that I had to shoot the shots in the day, so I could see what was going on, but I cannot figure out how to make the movie look like it is dark. Do you have suggestions?

I know already that this looks very much like a first effort, but I am still learning. Here is the link to the video

Pretty much any NLE will let you reduce the brightness of a scene, plus add a colour tint, usually a slightly desaturated blue. Basically that's all you need to do.

To get the best original footage for day-for-night processing, try to film in the afternoon or morning, when shadows are long and deep. Also, shoot with the sun behind your actors' backs, which will put them in shade and add to the effect.

If you want to get more info, just google "day-for-night" and you'll finds tons of expert advice.
