I am new and I am small, very small and low budget.
I have experience of marketing and producing a video commercially which is for a specialist market, however as a media studies (moving image) graduate I have bigger ambitions.
I am working on a project intended for commercial distribution, and naturally want the right backing for this.
So far I am talking with a small specialist book publisher who deals with autism mostly, however my material is not really germane to that market being essentially not so much of autism but artism
Is this forum likely to be useful for me in establishing the right contacts in the commercial video/DVD world.
When I have finished my piece I can do all the production, reproducing etc, as I have the necessary contacts for that side, what I need is marketing expertise and exposure.

Could you be more specific as to what kinds of contacts you are looking for?
I'm sorry to be so dense but two things you say really confuse me:
You mention taking your project to a book publisher. Why would you take a video/DVD project that isn't about autism to a book publisher who deals mostly with book on autism?
You mention that you have experience marketing and say that you can do all the production. Then you say you need advice on marketing.

Simple anser.
The first project was autism specific, and is available from the NAS
Some publishers list videos, this particular publisher is someone whom I had originally contacted over another autism specific video project which was subsequently abandoned.
When I say I have experience marketing a video, I mean one video within this rather limited market, I have no contacts outside of that particular sphere,
My next project does indeed deal with the subject matter of autism however in a rather different context from training and informational videos and the like having a wider potential as an "art" project
I need to discover what the potential market for this is, and who might be interested.
In a former incarnation I was a photographer but marketing was my weak side, I did not make a success of that business but am hoping to to do better with video/DVD. What one needs in any business is contacts who have contacts if you understand what I mean.
