uh well im not really sure what to say after watching that. It was your first movie and you recognize that. So i would suggest one of two things. Watch it over and over again then make it again except try to make it into some sort of actual short movie. You have a starting point now so you can work from there.

I'm not really sure what type of feedback you want. It looks like a 15yr olds first movie. haha which makes sense since you are a 15yr old and its your first movie. The pictures of all the people with "loser" written on the bottom was extremly random and made practically no sense. If you get rid of those then you might have some sort of a story...which would be "a day in the life of a homeless guy"

If you want any tips or certain type of feedback then let us know. But until then all i can say is to make more movies and you should get better with every movie you make.

Is there no way you can keep borrowing the school's camera even after the course is over?

If anybody wants to give me any kind of feedback, then give it. If you have somethign negative to say, I don't care if you are blunt, but just don't attack, make it a structered negative feedback reply.

Nope, they are school owned, and it took me a loooooong time to be able to take a camera out of the school to make my crappy movie.

sorry if my comments came off as negative. I have been where you are. I made a 40 minute horror film when i was 16 and well lets just say nobody besides my immediate family will ever see it again. It gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.

I would suggest that you buy a cheap camera. Anything would work. Just something that allows you to make movies. A mistake alot of people make is waiting until they have good equipment to shoot films. Dont do this. Buy whatever you can afford and make movies with it. Even if they are movies like the one you have made. Just shoot and shoot often. Try to improve each movie a little bit then before you know it you will have gotten good enough and have gained enough knowledge to make a decent movie with no budget then submit it to a festival and maybe win some money. Then you use that money to make another movie and so on...

Shoot and shoot often. And dont be afraid to ask questions. Good luck!

I guess I'm lucky then.
I usually use the family-owned video camera which is fairly decent, nothing professional, but then again, I too can't afford anything too good at my age...

Luckily though, my English Department at my high-school is run by a group of really laid-back english-y teachers who are awesome...
If i need to I can just borrow the departments camera which is a step up from my family one....

My family hasn't owned a camera since the late 80's to early 90's. It broke too. T_T
I'm not getting an expensive camera at least during my high school life. I'm getting a $350 camera. I wouldn't settle for anything less. After two months of comparing cameras in my price range and looking at reviews, I finally found a solid camera. I don't need a totally awesome camera, but I wanted one that is decent. I'm saving up for the JVC GR-DF550

I think it's awesome that you're so determined. My high school has several film classes and I hate watching the people who take the classes and just don't care.

I have a movie I was hoping a few people could watch it and give me a little feedback. Any comments would be appreciated. http://www.racingsinglet.com/d/ditch_lores.htm

I always have to do stuff by myself in my video class. All the other guys took up the work for the actual show that they work on for the school news. I'm not allowed to do anything, and nobody really wants to work with me. I hate those f***ers, they are useless to society, and to filmmaking.

I like your film you have made. The camera looks good, and it seems...informational in a weird way, but I think I will stick with my own thoughts on women. lol, that kid you have throughout the film kidna looks like this guy I know, only younger, ...creepy

you should make a movie to show them you know how to use a camera or make one making fun of people like them. Do a satirical short film about snotty school news kids. We all know kids like them, not all are like them but they are out there. If you do make a satire on them dont be blatant, be very tongue and cheek about it. Thats whats cool about filmmaking, you can use it to voice your opinion on things. Just make sure you don't go over the top and get somebody really angry with you. If you want to get involved with them then I would make something that shows them that you know what your doing.

You got to also remeber news making and television production is different then movie making in some ways. So you don't really need them...you got forums like this one and books to learn from, not to mention the actual process of making films. Also try the website www.dvxuser.com there is alot of good info on there.

ps. knotty, the link worked but the player wouldnt play. Maybe its my computer.

I find it interesting that you want to make movies so badly but then your life goal is to be a teacher, not a movie-maker. I could be wrong but that seems unique to me since movie-making is so a difficult prospect that most people have to love it to have the drive required to get a movie done. I could be wrong of course.

I would suggest, however, that you have the drive to tell stories and moviemaking is the outlet you learend through your class. If that is the case you might consider writing instead. It would help the teaching career and costs almost nothing. If you are halfway decent you can sell articles to places out of walking distance. It would also seem to fit your temperment from what I can see.

Of course this pseudo analysis is based on a handful of posts and could be way off but I thought I'd throw the idea into the mix.

I want to be a history teacher. I was inspired by the only person who cared about me (my history teacher), and well, History is my best subject, and I enjoyed it. Well that is off-topic I guess.

Why can't filmmaking be a hobby? It's an expensive hobby, but all the other hobbies I tried I was never good at and didn't realize it until it was too late and I've failed too many times and I never had financial support.

I wanted to start making movies before I attended that video class. I only tried the class out because I needed a class for that block and I wanted to know how to operate a camera correctly and stuff like that. The class is pretty apathetic if you ask me and never really helped me out after all. It's just a GPA booster more than anything.

I won't write. I cannot put things into words like I can into actions. Words make me sad. I know, it's weird, but whenever I write something that doesn't get acted out, it is just bottle up and useless and turns out to be nothing more than ink on paper, even thoguh I enjoy reading, I do not enjoy writing like that.

Alright, I gotta go, gotta finish writing my research paper... I wasn't working on my research paper due to I was busy working with my script for one of my movies... I am bad about putting things off...

Dark, I too wanted to be a history teacher...but you know what happened? Instead of telling stories in the form I like, film, I was going to college instead to become a writer. Be warned my friend, a history major does more writing than an english major. Thats right, with several hellish 10+ page research papers, and a 50 page the end it all off. I personally could not handle the writing because it is not my best form and was not able to hack it. If you want to pursue such a course best of luck, but from what ive read of your posts you seem much more enthusiastic about film than you do writing. Yes film can be a hobby...and I plan on making it mine while I pursue an alternate career in the entertainment industry. However it is still my main goal. From what I understand very few people make film making their career because starting off is so hard and expensive. You need something to support you temporarily while you get your name out and some working experience. Meh, enough people have given you adice im sure. You sound like your determined enough to do whatever you really want to, just know that alot of things in life do not go smoothly...you need to jump hurdles. That camera issue of yours is a prime example, dont let them slow you down or stop you!
