Hi guys! I'm a long time reader but this is my first time posting. We're starting up a new site called Reel Connect at ?url? http://www.ReelConnect.com?/url?. We envision it to be a site for filmmakers that allows them to post their work, just shorts, no features, as well as use our backend of Professional Film Networking. The main point of the site is that all members of the film will be able to "connect" to the film where their names will be prominently featured on the film's profile page.
We see it as a IMDB meets AtomFilms (before it was ruined) meets Facebook. Eventually we want to be able to have such deep collaboration and production search features that whole production teams are organized from it. Now with that pitch done I have 2 questions for you guys:
1) With the effort you've put into your short films what would tempt you to put up your short films on a site like ours? Exposure? We're not asking for any exclusivity rights and are going to offer profit sharing once the company is off the ground and we're not in the red. If so how much would tempt you? I've heard the going rate is typically .005 cents per viewer.
2) What do you think of the idea? I've done a lot of business with filmmakers and producers in Park City and other parts of Utah and many many people are excited about this site. We've already had 2 dozen submissions and we aren't even live yet. We're also sponsoring 2 local film festivals because they see the vision of the concept and are signing up their short film divisions (with the consent of the owners of the short films) after they screen them. Is this something that filmmakers need or could use?
Sorry for the wordy post. ReelConnect.com is launching it's beta version on January 8, 2007. If you're interested in having your work shown on our site and a profile set up please send an e-mail to submissions?reelconnect.com. Thanks guys.
