Hi Everyone, just wondered what your thoughts are on the best route to becoming a film producer. Business experience I have, but not a business degree, I have an arts degree and a psychology degree. Entrepreneurial yes and good at project management yes. Is the best route film school, business school? or just read loads and get on and do it? Would appreciate anyones views or ideas

Find a script you really like. Option it.
Find a director who's looking to work for really cheap on an interesting project.
Gather together enough people to finance it.
Make the movie.

Now you have a finished movie you produced. Do it two more times and you have three finished movies.

Anyone who can put together three movies on very low budgets is going to be a person to reckon with.

Now you go to a studio with three finished movies and you're in direct competition with a person who has a degree. Who do you think has the upper hand in getting a job?

This is my long winded way of saying "get on and do it!"

You hafta be willing to put up your own money.

Read up on how Francis Ford Copola, Scorcese, Dennis Hopper, Spielberg, Lucas (these are all director's but it's pretty much the same for producers), and the Weinstein's started.
