Ok, I think I've come up with the camcorder I'm going to buy. After looking at JVC, Sony, Panasonic, and Canon, I've come up with the Panasonic AG-DVC7. I'm on a serious budget, and this is the best price I could find. Is this camera worth buying? What do the reviews say?

Interesting camera. I've never seen or heard of that model before and there's not much information on the web. Looks like the downside is it only has a single CCD and doesn't appear to have full manual exposure modes: though auto systems these days are pretty good, and the main reason for using manual is to avoid the iris opening or closing when lighting changes.

This is the closest I found to a review:

If that's to be believed, it sounds like a pretty decent camera for the price.

I, like you was looking at the AG-DVC7. After alot of internet research i found some sites that gave it a pretty good review. I did buy it and it is actually really good. The quality is good even though it only has a 1ccd. hope this helps...if you have ANY questions just e-mail me or respond to this post

Sounds alright to me. But make sure there aren't any friends or otherwise (like schools) that will lend you a decent camera. For my first production, I had the same problem except there was no way I could afford a new camera. I have a cheap (but handy) DCR-HC30, which is no camera to shoot a production on. I had a few older friends who work with DV daily who were willing to lend us their cameras. Unfortunately one was a VX1000 without playback controls (the keypad was broken) and the other was some old JVC that was only available half the time. We asked around and we found out that our school had a VX2000 that we didn't know existed with three 12 hour batteries and a bunch of lens adapters. It's been a godsend and they were MORE than willing to let us use it (most of the time it was sitting in the AV room gathering dust). So ask around first and you may get lucky like us! Good luck, bro!
