Hello all,
I am a twenty-one-year-old USA community college student desperately in need of some input regarding future studies in film. Basically, I'm looking to transfer to a school where I can earn a BFA and learn as much about film and the film-making process as possible.
I have had no prior experience in production or even formal film studies outside of a general film appreciation class. I do, however, have good standing at my current two-year college with a GPA of over 3.5.
I love film. I live for it. My interest lies strictly in film as an artform, not as mere fluff or commodity. I am inspired by filmmakers like Patrick Bokanowski, Luis Bunuel, and R.W. Fassbinder.
Given my current situation, and the sheer amount of schools available, I feel lost in deciding on my next step. I would like to immerse myself in film studies and discover my area of interest. My problem is finding a school that is suitable for me. I understand that many are competitive and I don't know which are worth my time. As I've said, I have no prior experience (no work for portfolio, etc.), and I am coming from a general education at a community college.
Has anyone any advice on which schools I should consider/look into, and which I should simply forget about?
I thank you very much,
Alan
