What kind of files can be used directly on a dvd? I have a hi-8 camera and convert images with a Dazzle using MGI Videowave 4 as an editor. This editor makes .AVI files. I can't use Nero to save these files to DVD (Nero refuses) but they do work on video CDs. I have "Power Production Gold" which imports the .AVI files to the DVD and sems to work fine.

By the way, does anybody use .MOV files? My still camera makes those but I can't seem to find a place for them.

To play on a DVD player, you typically need to convert to MPEG-2 in the appropriate format for a DVD. However, mine plays a variety of .avi file formats as well.

There are two issues here. (1) If you treat the DVD as a data disc you can put any file type there and lay the DVD in any computer. (2) If you want the DVD to act like a real DVD and play in DVD players you must follow MarkG's advice on format.

More specifically, it's MPEG-2 wrapped up in .vob files.
