Hello,

I have a question about MiniDV's recording format.

Do MiniDv's record under NTSC or PAL format? If so, how come? Digital
format are recorded under NTSC or PAL format? I was under the
assumption that the reason Digital format exists so that it can be
independent of formats and therefore can be viewd on NTSC or PAL TV's.

I hope my question is not confusing. I really appreciate if anyone can
help me clear my confusion.

Regards,
Kalyan

Kal

If you live in the US then its all NTSC. If you're in Europe, its PAL.

However, while the cameras will only record PAL or NTSC directly, they can usually record and play both PAL and NTSC via Firewire.

DV has either NTSC or PAL, unless you are using High end HD cameras.

however, Its best to get a PAL camera in the US or UK, and if in the US, run it through DVFILM's Atlantis software (www.dvfilm.com). the reason? PAL has 100 More lines of Resolution than NTSC. And PAL is pretty easy to transfer to NTSC while keeping the PAL resolution.
