I have a question regarding microphones for film. I plan on shooting with a super 8 camera and using slap stick set up with a microphone and a Mini Disc Recorder. My question is though I just recently bought a shotgun microphone and it's recording in mono in only one channel. I'm wondering what is the best set up for under 200 bucks as far as microphones go? Like maybe record field sound with a different microphone and use the shotgun mic i have? If anyone could answer at all this would be great. Thanks!!

Most movies are recorded in mono, then the sound-track is created in post. In fact, listening to DVDs on my 7.1 sound system, most dialogue is mono in the final sound-track, coming from the center speaker.
Note that most super-8 cameras are not crystal sync, so you may have a hard time syncing up the dialog to the film you shoot... though there's always the Robert Rodriguez approach of just cutting away whenever you get too far out of sync.
What is the best way to record the sound fx, background sound, etc. What kind of microphone should i use for that?
