OK I am confused/ How would I use a non camera microphone. Like where would I use it in editing and like how does the whole thing work. I know I know newb question but thats why there is this board...right?

Ideally you'd have XLR connectors on your camera, so you'd feed the microphone into a mixer, then the mixer into the camera. If you're cheap you'd skip the mixer, and if you're real cheap you use a $50 mike that plugs into the 3.5mm jack sockets on most consumer cameras.

Right!

You won't use the mic in editing - only in recording the production sound. Unless you are asking about recording sound effects or dialogue in post production.

The other way is to record the sound seperately and then put it into your editing system seperately and match it up with the pictures using the sound/motion of a clapper before each scene.

This is old style, running the sound into your camera as stated above is a better solution. You camera will record the sound and sync it up as if it was recorded by the cameras own microphone
