Hi All,
This is my first post in this forum....
Myself and my band are making our first low budget music video next month with a director from an Art School,
Is there any advice you can give us on what we should prepare for the shoot? Currently i am doing out a story board of one of the ideas i think we should use for the video, but other than that i don't know what else to prepare, i haven't scouted a location yet, but i think we should be ok.
Any help appreciated on gotchas etc and other stuff we might need to think about....
Thanks
Michael
I would make sure that ya'll get plenty of performance shots. Capture a wide angle shot of the entire band playing through the whole song. THen capture the close ups of each member playing through the whole song. The only reason i say this is because you want to have that extra footage if something goes wrong in post or the shots you tokk of other stuff didnt turn out so well, you'll at least be able to cut to some good performance shots. Just make sure that ya'll are all into it when your are playing and not just standing around (unless, of course, your music is softer.)
Talk about everything beforehand so that on the day of shooting nobody is surprised and/or throwing fits.
Be prepared to play your song a dozen times (entire band from a couple of angles plus the each bandmember in solo) and remember they may not even catch sound because they're gonna use the studio sound from the proper recording so if something doesn't sound great just keep going because you will all kill each other if you worry about perfect sound on a take that won't use the sound and may not even use that bit of the song after you've been playing all day long.
