Well I am in college and I do want to become a filmmaker. Even if I don't become a director and what-not, I still want to be in (or start) a production company. Now, my question is, since I cannot major in film (there isn't such a major here), will I be able to still do things in film if I major in Managerial Economics? Does this major help me work in the film industry in any way? (even if it means working in the production company itself...)
Sorry if my question is confusing. I'm just wondering if I can still find work in this industry with such major.
Film school gives you two things: 1. A set of contacts who might be able to help you (maybe); 2. The impetus to go out and shoot something, if for no other reason than to simply get it out of the way. Shooting something can be very intimidating. Film school deflowers you in that way, and frees you to be successful.
Having said that, I work every day with people who did not go to film school and are very successful. These people are not the exception, they are the norm. A film set is littered with people who studied architecture, business, art, English, astrophysics, and yes, film (and this is just the Grip Department). The actual business of filmmaking is a blue collar business with over-educated people working really long hours in the tradition of the circus. Study what you want, what will make you happy and expand your horizons. Then, at the end of college, if you want to go make movies, give it a shot. Film school is great if you have the privilege, but it is by no means necessary to being successful in Hollywood.

Hmm...thank you.
