Hi all. Im looking to mess around and maybe shoot a couple short films and fool around in Adobe Premiere a bit. The short movie my friends and I want to make is a no-budget flick. I really am broke when it comes to a camera. I have 600 dollars to buy one. I have looked at a lot of them. Mostly the Canon ZR60-70 series. However I keep reading reviews on how the motor noise gets really loud or how the indoor lightning looks terrible. I hear a lot of people point to the Sony counterpart at this price range. Is there any camera that you would suggest for about 600 that would work best for me (want to shoot indoor mostly as well as outdoor movies)

I've got the PAL equivilent to the Canon ZR70, and I havn't had any problems with it. All cameras have a certain degree of motor noise, and if you're recording audio you should get an external mic no matter what camera you have. As for indoor lighting, I would think it has more to do with setting up a good lighting system and ajusting the white balance on the camera.

I've made a couple of short films with my Canon, and am now ready for a better camera, but for when I was starting out it was really all I needed, and I got pretty good quality for the ammount that I paid.

Hello, I'm saving up this summer for a Mini DV (digital) camera. I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I'm not sure which camera to get or what type of features i need. I want to edit it on my computer. Should it have manual focus or auto or both? I don't want a begginer camera, i want one that is "good" and in my price range which is anything under $1200 dollars. Please someone help me out. mrx347?bellatlantic.net -dean

Hey,

I just got myself the Canon ZR60. I'm really happy with it. Mind you, I'm not making anything major here. If you only looking to start out I'd suggest it. Motor noise isn't great, but you should get an external mic anyways.
The quality of the video it took is actually quite amazing. Inside it does get grainy if you don't have really good lighting.
I would suggest getting the 60 over the 65 or 70 just because the stuff they have you won't really need. The extra features on the 65-70 are really only stuff you want if you're doing home videos of your vacation. Anyways, it was worth the money to me.
