Hello all. I'm looking to purchase my first camera. Still, I'm on a rather tight budget, and I'm looking for something under $3,000. Basically, I want the best quality I can get for the money. I've done some research and I'm currently looking into these cameras.

Canon GL2

Panasonic AG-DVC30

Panasonic AG-DVC60

Panasonic AG-DVX100B

Sony DCR-VX2100

These are the cameras I've been looking into . . . Do you have any tips, suggestions or warnings? Feel free to suggest a camera not listed here that is in my price range. Also, if you could, please rate the cameras above . . . just like the top 3. Thanks for your help!

Personally I'd go for the DVX100 or an HDV camera.

Yes, the DVX100 does look promising. Any specific HDVs in mind?

I have a Z1, but that's outside your price range: I suspect only the HC3 is within that price range, so HDV may not be an option right now... from what I understand it's not a bad camera, but lacks some of the 'professional' features of the DVX100.

?:(? hahahaha... looking at those cameras...

At the moment I'm using a small Canon DV cam and editing on an iMac in iMovie. The ultimate budget solution!! If anyone has a better camera lying around....? ?:D?

But yes, the DVX100 does look good.

Matt.

Feedback on my new film would be greatly appreciated.

I've got a DVX100b, awesome cam! In that price range and with the options you have, it's a no brainer, get the DVX.

Got 1911?
