I'm just interested to know what colours of lighting create what effect or mood.I have been testing things but what do other people use.

I only tend to use standard lighting for creating mood with shade, and then use coloured light to exentuate colours that are already in the scene. Wall colours, christmas lights, candle light, etc. If I'm doing a daylight scene inside, I tend to use bluegels and film it at night, cus I can never seem to figure out the colour temperature difference in the day.
I guess if you wanted to create say anger, then incorporate a fairly low wattage red gell light in to the scene.
I'm interested in what you have been testing. What colors have you found that help create a mood?

Well i have been using blue similar for the use you mentioned. Also I shot a scene recently where there was a fire coming from a room and my actor was walking down the corridor (it was night by the way) so i used a red/orange light to direct it from the room where there was a fire.
It looked ok but not quite like a fire, in the end i had someone just move a T Shirt up and down in front of it so it looked like flames. The results looked good. I don't know if there is a better way for doing this but I love finding simple solutions to problems like that!
I'm particulary interested in night scenes. I have been directing the light away from my subject but should i use a blue gel for night scenes. I have filmed night before but i have also shot it at places where there is light (e.g. street lamps) i havent tried to shoot a scene where there isnt meant to be any light.

As is being discussed on another thread, a filmmaker needs to suspend "reality" when shooting a scene where
there isn't meant to be any light. If there is no light, there is no image. A couple of people walking through
the deep woods in total darkness still need light when that scene is in a movie.
So you've tried blue for night and red/orange for fire. The t-shirt solution sounds like a good one. Have
you tested any other colors?
