First of all, hello to all of you. To sum it up, I'm a physics student who want to try something completely new; film making. I'm playing around with an idea for a short film, writing down the basic plot and scene descriptions.
Right now I'm looking for a good camera in the $1000-$2000 price-range, and I think the GZ-MC500 model from JVC looks rather promising. Does anyone have any experience with this model, and/or recommendations about other cameras around that price level? I know there are a few threads on this subject, but I couldn't find any concerning this specific model, so I took the liberty to make a new one.
Thanks in advance

Never used one, but there's a review here:

Looks like it doesn't have a mike socket, so you'd have to record sound seperately, and I've no idea what format it records video in: apparently it records to a 4GB hard disk (?), so if it's DV then you'll only get about 15 minutes of recording before you'd need to copy it to a computer.
either get one of the panasonic 3 CCD cameras, or the Sony HDV cam.

I love JVC cameras but I don't know anything about that one.
For just a little more you can get the GY-DV5000 used.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I'm seriously considering tipping in a little more and getting the Canon GL2. From what I can see it's a very good cam, well worth the investment.
