I just recently finished making a 90 minute movie. I'm 17 years old and everyone in/who worked on the movie were ametures, and first time actors/crew members. The movie contains several pieces of unliscened music. My question is, can I submit this movie to any film festivals? I know that alot of people who were in the movie would like to see the movie get "out there." They want to see it submitted to film festivals. Also, a friends would like to take it with him when he goes back to college. My question is what should I do? Is it OK to submit the movie to a festival with all that unliscened music? Do I have to worry about the movie getting "stolen" if I give a bunch of copies out/let people take it with them?
Thanks

Serious festivals may well require you to prove you have rights to the music.

Unless the unlicensed music is very specifically needed for some reason you should save yourself some headaches and look around this board. There are lots of musicians willing to create music for free to add to their resume and portfolio or whatever musicians call it.
If the unlicensed music is very specific you should contact the owners of the music and see if they'll grant the rights for you to use it in a festival.
