Hia ace, even cheep plastic would probably do, it looks a lot better on film, most are realistic looking to start with. As someone else said, you can add sound fx and muzzleflash in post.

I just went and double checked for you. It is completely legal in all states of the union to remove the orange tip after it has been shipped to you. However, using it in public without a permit, or prior police notification can be construed as a criminal offence, for attempting to pass off a replica firearm as real. So you should be good. Be sure to tell the police pretty much no matter where you shoot though.
