Is Filmmaking for me?

I am a writer, and have always been telling stories. I've always wanted to try my hand at making films (I'm not sure of which kind, but mostly art - without human characters?), but I never really attempted it. I now have a 720p HD camera, and was thinking - hey! Why don't I try to make films now? I've never been an American film fanatic since I'm not really allowed to watch the movies with meaning (though how I wish I could), but I've always been really interested in the cinematography and believe I have a good eye for it.
I'm not sure if I should try, since writing's always been my thing - my only way to express my stories and art.
Do you think I should? Can I just do it with the camera I have now?
What community should I upload my video(s) to?

Thanks for the motivation and help?

I think you should try.

Do it with the camera you have now. Do not think about uploading your
video(s) now. Make a few, get better each time and then, sometime down
the road, you can upload them to YouTube.

If there are no meaningful obstacles, and you feel you have the energy and drive to do it, then definitely, yes, give it a shot.

One thing intrigued me in your message, though. You say: ..."I've never been an American film fanatic since I'm not really allowed to watch the movies with meaning".... I'm not sure what do you mean by "movies with meaning" (or what you mean by "not allowed"... by whom?).

Regardless; if for whatever reason you prefer making abstract visual art, rather then the more common narrative form, then by all means go for it.

If you are just beginning to learn how to make movies, your own camera will help you make first steps. If the end result is something you feel like sharing, YouTube and Vimeo are perfectly good forums for sharing it.
