Hi, I'm looking for advice on how to edit my film to give it the best look possible. I use a cheap camera and cheap software (sony vegas). I have done everything i can while filming it (white balance, exposure etc, suitable lighting, steady shots.) to try to make it look good.
However what would be the best thing to adjust in post to give it that extra edge I need. For example high/low satuation/contrast/amount of blur or sharpness or cool/warm colour curves.
I have played around with these but am not sure how I can try to emulate films you see in the cinema.
Obviously I'm being realistic - they arent going to look perfect but there must be something I can do?

Hello Rob,
Firstly congratulations for getting this far with your film and delivering it as best as possible. What you have already done puts you in better situation.
Now a few ideas to make it look as good as possible...
1)when you save it to a disc etc save it in HD mode
2)you could add background music (well some may laugh never underestimated the uplift in quality sound can give a moving image)
3)You could brighten up any scenes you think are too dark
4)If you have decreased the number of frames per second you should re-increase them so the film will run smoother and be easier on the eye
5)get an outside opinion from someone you know as you film might not actually be as bad as you think it is
6)Instead of cutting from scene to scene have some variation
7)when you want the audience to focus on the foreground slightly blur the background and vice versa
I hope this helps and good luck
