i want to be an editor, but how do i start? Are there any books where i can study to be one?
also i looked in to everything you need in an editing system, how do people get the money for that? its like $30,000 for a pro edting system and thats just for starters. I mean i only work part time right now, but even for a full time worker thats alot
You can set up a decent DV editing system for $2000-3000, maybe less these days. A decently fast computer, a few hundred gigabytes of disk space and a decent editing program (e.g. Final Cut for Macs, Avid Xpress or Premiere for PCs) is all it takes.
Otherwise you'll probably either need to work on low-budget productions to build up a showreel, or start off as an editing assistant if you can find a company which will hire you. There are also non-movie/TV areas where you can make money as an editor, like real estate videos and (god forbid!) wedding videos.
