I'm thinking about beginning a career in Filmmaking, but I'm not sure if it's the right thing. I've had trouble coming up with the right thing for me to do in general; but I want to explain a little bit, and see what the professionals think. 🙂
So... when you're a little girl you play 'house' all the time.
The problem for me is, I still do that; to an extent.
As I got older it became more like I would watch a movie, and see one particular scene, and then think 'wow they could make another whole movie stemming from that scene...' Then I would go crazy coming up with all these ideas about what could happen, or where they could live, or add 2 sisters in, or flip the roles around and give it to the other character. The detail I would go into, for some things, was crazy.
I also came across 2 screenplay type things I had written out like a play & several other ideas like that, just written out on paper.
I also pick out people (mostly celebrities of some sort that I'm into) and make up a life for them & other ppl - or something to that effect.
I'll do the same thing - where they live, who their friends are, what their backyard looks like, how many kids they have.
Almost all the time with that, it's something totally different than the actual life that person led.
And once again I go into GREAT detail when I think all this out. Writing it down almost isn't good enough, because I can't get everything I see in my head in words. I also act it out almost all the time to make it even more realistic, and more detailed.
Now I know you probably think I'm insane, but I think this stems from being an only child and having to entertain myself all the time. I just didn't realize it's like a passion for me until about 2 weeks ago. Then I thought well, maybe filmmaking is a good path for me to push all this stuff toward.
So, I really just want to know if that sounds like the beginning thoughts of a filmmaker, or I'm just crazy. 🙂
Thanks.
Sounds like a screenwriter to me. Or the kind of Producer that makes screenwriters nuts by having a billion ideas for changes.

Welcome to filmmaking.net!
I don?t think you?re insane.
If you love to create stories then writing seems to be something
you should try. If you end up with stories that you feel should
be scripts, then you should write scripts. If, when the scripts
are finished, you feel you need to be the person directing the
film, then you are a filmmaker.
Like anything else, you need to practice. Baseball players who
think about playing buy never get out on the diamond aren?t
really baseball players. While you are writing your stories you
can also grab any camcorder you can get your hands on and start
experimenting with it.
Becoming a filmmaker takes many years. You can start the journey
right now.

Thank you guys for actually taking the time to read all that; it was kinda long! 🙂
I appreciate your opinions.
I was really thinking about being the producer rather than actually making the film.
I think my understanding is the producer is the one with the idea for everything from start to finish, and that's more me than directing the film.
When I was looking at schools, however, it seems like you have to learn all of filmmaking to get the production part or screenwriting out of the classes.
I might be wrong about that, because I really know absolutely nothing about filmmaking right now.
So it seems you already know what you would like to try.
There is nothing wrong with someone who want to be a producer to learn about
screenwriting and the production of a film. I kinda wish more producers understood
that aspect as well as the business side.
Since you know absolutely nothing about filmmaking right now this is a great
time to start learning about filmmaking. Learn what each person on a film does,
from the writer to the director to the production designer to the props person
to the costumer to the editor to the foley recordist.
Then use all that knowledge to become an excellent producer.

Didn't I read on here somewhere that you learned everything you know without going to school... or was that someone else?
Because now I need a good school recommendation. 🙂
