I am currently a business student at Cal State Northridge and have a passion for producing and the technicals of filmmaking. I am looking into a couple of schools including the New York Film Academy http://www.nyfa.com), Los Angeles Film School ( http://www.lafilm.com), and a local school located in the San Fernando Valley, Cinema Arts Tech ( http://www.cinemaartstech.com) There are pros and cons to each school. LA film school and NYFA charge about $30k a year and Im not sure if I want to take out any more loans. We all know Hollywood is a tough biz. But I found out Cinema Arts Tech has a great program with a more affordable Producing Program. Does anybody know about this school? I did my research and all the schools have great teachers. Hmmm. Should I save my money and go to Cinema Arts Tech or should I go to a school that is more prestige and take out a 30k loan. Perhaps, instead of taking a 30k loan, I can just produce my own little short movie. LOL ANY ADVICE WOULD BE APPRECIATED 🙂
Do you want to produce, direct, shoot? If you want to produce then I'm not sure what film school does for you. In my opinion it would be a complete waste of time and money. You can make a feature for les than $30,000.

Here's your chance to get your feet wet. The best way to learn filmmaking is to read books and make films...and volunteer to work on films. I found this on indieclub.com Send them an email and tell them you would like to work (volunteer)on the set or with the producer (once they find one) so you can learn about filmmaking.
