I am currently writing a book and last night I got an idea to do a documentary based on the book I am writing.
I just have no idea where to start.
Do I just need to get someone with a decent camcorder to get the ball rolling?
Is it that simple or is it more complex then this?
Getting a camcorder is good, but I'd suggest sitting down and planning everything before you start shooting -- locations, schedule, budget, equipment, etc. It might be helpful to partner with someone who's done documentaries and can get you through the process.

the most important thing for a documentaRY is to shoot, shoot, and then shoot some more. You might try asking around for someone with experience. If that is not possible, then make an outline of your film on paper, set goals for interviews, like a tentative storyline, but be prepared for the film to take on a life of its own.
