I'm not 100% positive, but I believe 50' of Super 8mm is 3.5 minutes of film time. Don't forget to take your shooting ratio into account when ordering your film.
you'll have to forgive me but i know notta about this. what is the shooting ratio?

It's the ratio between what you shoot and what you use. Typically it'll be between 5:1 and 10:1 for a low-budget shoot on film (i.e. for a ten minute film you'll probably shoot 50 to 100 minutes of footage).
