Hi, I was wondering how do directors survive in this business...someone who's not Steven spielberg of course...like for example, how much do they get for directing a movie? All that stuff you know...thank you!

I believe the Directors Guild minimum in the US is $100,000 a movie. Most folks could live on that fairly comfortably. And many directors manage to make more than the minimum. I'm not sure how many manage more than one movie a year but it should be possible.
I'm not sure what the numbers are for television and independent is hit and miss.

I think it's worth pointing out that relatively few director get to work all year round, like any freelance work there is very little security, you just go out and get as much work as you can which is why so many young director who want to do features get sucked into doing TV, it's a lot easier to earn a living, but still a lot harder than most "normal" jobs.
