I want to shoot the moon with my digital camcorder but unfortunately it comes out grainy and such. I haven't really fiddled with anything other than focus and zoom. Perhaps taking off digital zoom and taking it as is, I heard that helps.
But what about the fact its dark and the moon is super bright? What about shutter speed or whatever the 1/100, 1/400, and the 1/1000 and other settings? I have no idea.
Does anyone know a message board or forum I could go to in order to reask this question?
The great thing about DV is the ability to try out different options cheaply. Set up your camera, grab a notebook and try different configurations. Turn off the digital zoom and shoot 10 seconds at each shutter speed. Then turn it back on and shoot 10 seconds at each shutter speed. Change the exposure each time, too. And don't forget to write down precisely what you have done at each step to you can recreate the set up. Put your test into you NLE and decide which looks best.
The problem with most camcorders (and you didn't even tell us what you're using) is the lens isn't very good. Certainly not up to the standards of a Ziess 1000mm mirror lens.
There are dozens of other message boards and forums where you can ask this question. Make sure you let them know what camera you're using and the size of the lens. You might get more responses if you offer more information.
Let us know how your tests work out and if you find a forum that give you the answer you're looking for.

Ah, I just figured there were general instructions to be used. Yeah I reckon I should have said it was a Canon ZR65 MC. Its not very good at all. But I will do what you said tonight. Sounds relaxing anyway... Thank you.
Man... Past three days. No moon out. No Moon. Go figure...
