You need to either borrow a Digital-8 camera so you can get a direct playback by Firewire, find a DV camera that has analogue input so you can dub from Hi8 to DV (or direct to the PC through the camera in some cases), get hold of an analogue to Firewire convertor, or get a PC card with analogue input. I have a Pinnacle Pro-One, which has analogue inputs and compresses to DV format, and I've heard that Canopus have a cheap card out with combined Firewire and analogue inputs.
