I need advice. I'm currently a Sophomore at a small liberal arts college and want to pursue filmmaking. I took a digital film production course last semester and loved it. Then my dumb school took away all the film and media courses!!!!!! I don't know what to do. I have registered for the New York Film Academy for the summer which is gonna be awesome but I feel like I'm wasting time staying at the school I'm at. I'm thinking about staying where I am as an English major and then going to graduate film school. Is that wrong? I need help.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Welcome to filmmaking.net. Nothing is wrong if it gets you where
you want to be. I'm the "anti-film school" guy around here and
you'll find some people who are currently going to film school to
counter my opinion.

Unfortunatly, there really isn't an answer. Each person needs
different things.

I am in your exact same position. I am in college as a senior and am about to graduate with a film studies major(which is idiotic as the majority of the classes I have taken towards my major are geared towards theatre or art).

Regardless, I am about to shoot my first feature lenght film that I have written in a couple months. I will take what I have learned from college into account, but at the same time I am taking what I have read from non-college courses into account to make sure that what I do is worthwhile. The film-studies course at my university is crap so I love to hate on it as much as I can.

"F" UNL's Film Studies program. I have grown a lot more from just watching a lot of movies and researching them on my own time.
