Hi everyone, i'm new to here, so hello to everyone. ?:)?

I thought this should really go in pre-production, but as i'm new, and asking several questions i thought i'd post here.

I was looking at Pro Video Cameras for ages, i didn't really want to spend 5K, well, i didn't have 5K to spend, so i settled in the end on the Canon XL2.

It was really between that and the Sony Z1, the thing that put me off the Z1, was two things:

Firstly, i couldn't see an interchangable lens system.

Secondly:

Am i right in thinking that High Definition is a bit shakey, in as much as you cannot edit each individual frame?

Therefore when editing, you have to take out 3 frames (one Real, and two virtual), at a time?

It just seemed a bit ironic to sell HD as having better picture quality when the compression is said to be a bit dodgy.

so really, i was wondering, do they actually work really well?
or is HD just a "Marketting Gimmick", i think it's a marketting gimmick, but that's because i've never held one.

My other question is does anyone know where to get a 3D lens for the Canon XL system from?
and other cannon pheripherals, like wireless microphones and the like? (aside from cannon.co.uk)

thanks for all your help, and i'm really pleased to have found this forum!

Love & Peace!

No, but I haven't seen an XL1 in the wild with anything other than the standard lens either :).

No. The main difference between HDV and DV is that with DV you can do a direct digital copy of the frames from your master tapes to your final edited master if you don't do color grading or effects, whereas with HDV you almost always need to recompress. That's a disadvantage, but not a huge problem in practice unless you make a habit of re-editing your movies.

?:)?

Thanks.

Firstly though, i wasn't refering to the XL1, i was refering to the XL2.

Secondly, the XL1 MUST have an interchangable XL lens, because it's advertised that you can buy an XL2 without the lens, and move your lens from your XL1s, to your XL2.

maybe you're thinking of the XM2?

sorry for the double post, i just realised i misread the reply, and i couldn't find an edit option.

The XL lens system has had a stereoscopic lens attachment which i was infact after.

but aside from that, no, i have not seen many out there either, after all, if you have a 20x optical zoom, why would you by a 3x one?

sorry about misreading the post there.

isn't the XL2 in the 5grand range? I havent checked it in a while so it could have gone down. I woudl suggest a DVX100a or b. The 100a are normally around $2,500 and you get a great picture with it. Look into it. Good hunting.

maybe it is in USD,($) but in english ?, it's ?2,850.

it did used to be ?4,100 at one point ??)??:0?

but yeah, put an end to that.

on the subject of attachable lenses, i just recalled you can attach EOS lenses to the XL with a onverter, though quite what the point of that would be is beyond me.

what with there being no memory card in the XL2, sure you can link a hard drive but..with a 20x zoom, what are you gonna do with anything else?

I think Mark wa saying that despite the fact that it can interchange lenses he has not yet seen anyone put a different lense on the beast.

Yes.

BTW, you can change lenses on the FX1/Z1, you just need a hack-saw and a fair amount of courage :).

Is there a forum for Video Camera Hardware Hax?

i'm still trying to work out how you make 3D films.

and what software to use to encode it.
