I have to do a Gothic short film- 20 minutes for extension English due in about 2 weeks !!! so Im pretty PANICKED as Ive never made a short film before.
Its a group assignment- 4 people, and I figured we could all chip in 50 bucks for equipment to hire.
Would it work if I used a Sony HDR-CX520V camera with a Sanken CMS-10
Mono / Stereo / Wide Microphone? and a boom/stand, then use firewire to convert it and edit. I can hire all that for about 200.
I have no frkin clue really.
That camera is fine. Record the dialogue in mono, not stereo.
Don't forget to use some lighting. Movies that do not use lighting
just look flat. And a "gothic" look needs some extra attention to
the lighting.
Don't panic. Just have fun and make your movie.

GOTH is all mood, and Certified Instigator is right, lighting is going to do a lot for setting the mood.
A tip: When you start to light this scene, use only one light in a dark room, and find the best angle for your light, and fill in with others.
