If you google 'Royalty free music' then I would emagine that you will find a few sites that are useful to you. I know that people have answered this question before more specificaly with links to actual sites. The only site I can actualy think of is www.soundogs.com (Cant remember if its dog.com or dogs.com, try both) Im not sure if they deal in free music, but I know that they specialise in sound effects. http://twistedtracks.com Royalty free tracks for purchase
Also I am loving SONY ACID Pro for creating music, mind blowing, very fun. I bought about 6 content CDs of Acid loops to use with Acid Pro to make an infinite array of music for film.

Here is a place that sells fantasy and sci-fi music packs for games that could also be used for films. They are not free, but inexpensive.

I've been working with this music label, Wilia Record from Singapore before. They have got a few in-house songwriters/composers specialized in writing songs for independent films.

Depending on your requirement and needs, they will work out a few tracks for your selection. I'll usually purchase 2 songs of approximately 4mins each for USD99. Pretty reasonable.

I think the coolest thing about them is their service. They will send you a CD of the songs you have purchased for free and is patient in discussing your needs, refining their work until you are satisfied.

You can try to contact this person, Weide. His email is weide?wiliatech.com. I've lost his contact for the moment. Will check with my assistant and repost shortly.

Hope it helps.

As a filmmaker and composer myself, I know of some good ways to contact experienced composers for your film - and most composers will score for free in order to enhance their resumes. Try submitting a call for composers on www.Mandy.com - generally you will get about 40-50 applicants who would be willing to compose for free. There are also a handful of royalty free music websites out there, as mentioned (I have one w/ my work on it as well). Just do a Yahoo search and you should see some results...

Good luck!

Some filmmaking magazines I bought recently came with a CD/DVD and had quite a few free songs of royalty free music, such as from twistedtracks.com You might try that as an option for finding free music.
