Need proof that a well made short film can land you a studio deal? This one went viral and got its director a studio deal with Lionsgate Studios. Can you see why?
That's what I'm hoping to do - start from small hobby projects, and, if all goes well, hit it big. 🙂
Well done.
That is called hitting the jackpot. Perhaps slightly greater probability than with lottery, but not by much. It can happen, though.
192 views (as of Oct 24) cannot be considered going viral.
Congrats on getting distribution. The trailer is excellent.
Tell us about the short film that landed you the Tiger Gate deal.
There is no mention on Robs website about a short film being made
and going viral.

The original posting is somewhat misleading (to be diplomatic here). I was intrigued by its message (make a good short, put it on Youtube, it goes viral, Lionsgate comes and offers a movie deal). After some digging, it turns out that the Lionsgate deal is actually a deal with TigerGate, a company that owns two cable channels in East Asia; the distribution deal is NOT with a studio, but with an Asian cable company. Lionsgate studio is just one of the owners of TIgergate. The trailer on Youtube is for the movie that is supposedly getting sold to Tigergate. We don't know anything about the short that went viral, and as certified instigator said, the director's web site doesn't mention it anywhere.
While it isn't exactly the ultimate dream (shoot a short, get a Hollywood studio deal), the film is still sold for money (presumably), which is great. I'm sure everyone here would love to see that viral video that landed this movie sale.
By the way, there is no entry in IMDB for the film (yet).
I've dealt with Tigers Gate, a subsidiary of Lionsgate in the Asian market.
They rarely pay up front, but this project might be the exception. Giving
our new member the benefit of the doubt I hope to hear more. It's quite
common for a finished film to be picked up for overseas cable TV by a
company like Tiger Gate but it's still a success story.
I hope this isn't just a drive-by promotion...
